Ribocon GmbH (Ribocon), Germany

Ribocon is a professional bioinformatics services and solutions provider for Microbiology, serving Academia and Industry worldwide. The company was founded in 2005 as an independent spin-off of the Microbial Genomics Group at the Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology and is located in the city of Bremen, about 60 km off the German North Sea coast. Ribocon mainly acts in the fields of 53 Environmental Microbiology and Industrial Biotechnology with key techniques spanning (meta)genome data analysis, software and database development/maintenance, and (rRNA genebased) identification/classification of microorganisms. Ribocon is specialized on bioinformatics for marker gene-based microbial identification and functional (meta)genomics/transcriptomics, both based on current large scale datasets from next generation sequencing. Ribocon has been involved in national projects including metagenomic data analysis and bioinformatics infrastructure development for marine systems (‘MIMAS’) and participates in the EU project ‘Symbiomics’ (since 2011) and ‘MicroB3’ (starting 2012). Ribocon is highly active in the field of data standardization (‘MIMARKS’) and is collaborating with the European Bioinformatics Institute in Hinxton, UK, to improve standards and procedures for submission of next generation sequencing data to the corresponding public repositories at EBI.
